Tetracycline staining is a deep, gray-to-brown banding that forms inside the tooth structure itself, usually from antibiotic exposure while the teeth were developing. Because it sits in the body of the tooth rather than on the surface, ordinary whitening reaches it slowly, if at all.

Dentists typically approach it with extended whitening protocols, and when bleaching alone can't get there, with veneers or bonding that cover the banding entirely. Which route makes sense depends on how deep and how dark the bands are.
